Carrie Larsen

Carrie Larsen, CPHT, the sole proprietor of August Design Studio, LLC, has over 20 years of architectural experience working in numerous sectors of the built environment, from large-scale commercial construction project management, to international and national commercial interiors, natural and alternative building methods, regenerative design practices, and residential architectural and interior design all the way down to custom residential upholstery and decor.

August Design Studio is deeply passionate about creating simple, healthy homes that are in harmony with nature. Carrie firmly believes that healthy and sustainable design does not have to come with an exorbitant price tag or involve discomfort. Her studio thrives on collaboration with clients, providing them with the expertise and guidance necessary to transform their visions into reality in a way that withstands the test of time.

Carrie’s hands-on job site experience has been invaluable in teaching her what it truly takes to transform a design concept into a built reality. Her time in interior design illuminated how we interact with spaces primarily from the inside, highlighting the importance of designing from the inside out. She understands that a home must not only look good but also function well for the inhabitants.

While studying and teaching alternative building and regenerative design, Carrie nurtured a passionate commitment to harmonizing with the natural world. Her education equipped her with practical skills for creating buildings that are healthy, non-toxic, net-zero, carbon-neutral, and capable of harnessing passive solar energy.

When budget constraints are the primary factor influencing a design, Carrie draws on her 12+ years of experience designing conventionally constructed homes. She effectively integrates the most advantageous elements of sustainable design, without imposing a boutique price tag that is out of reach to so many.

Carrie identifies as an INTP—known as “The Architect”—and has been designing and building since childhood. Her inherent analytical mindset and perfectionist tendencies find a healthy outlet in solving complex design challenges. She understands that constraints are what actually shape a building, guiding her through the process of aligning budget, program, site views, natural light, and the overarching goal of harmony with nature. For Carrie, architecture beautifully merges technical precision with artistic expression, creating spaces that are not only functional but also inspiring and in harmony with the natural world around them.
